Exterior Painting done right, from prep to final coat

Long Island exterior paint fails for two reasons: bad prep and bad product. We fix both. Every exterior job starts with a full pressure wash (low-PSI tips on cedar and siding), hand-scraping of all flaking areas, spot-sanding to feather edges, hand-caulking every seam and joint, and spot-priming every bare wood area with Zinsser Cover Stain or Sherwin-Williams Exterior Oil Primer. Then we apply two coats of a premium acrylic — Sherwin-Williams Duration, Emerald, or Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior — in the temperature and humidity windows that actually let the paint cure. We don't paint at 95°F in August and we don't paint when dew point is 3°F below surface temperature. That's how paint fails in 3 years instead of lasting 12.

Our process — step by step

  1. 1

    Site Walk

Kevin or a lead walks the exterior, photographs failing areas, maps out caulk lines and rot repairs. Quote within 24 hours.

  2. 2

    Wash & Prep

Pressure wash (24–48 hour dry time). Then scrape, sand, caulk, replace rotted boards, spot-prime. Usually 2–3 days depending on house size.

  3. 3

    Paint

Siding gets 2 coats premium acrylic. Trim hand-brushed for crisp lines. Shutters pulled and sprayed off-house. Doors brushed or sprayed per customer preference.

  4. 4

    Walk & Warranty

Final walk with customer. Touch-ups same day. Written warranty — 5 years on workmanship, plus the manufacturer warranty on the product system.

Why homeowners pick us for this job

We Paint in the Right Window

We turn down July jobs if the 10-day forecast shows 85%+ humidity. Paint that goes on wet fails no matter what you paid.

Rotted Wood Repair — Not Just Paint Over

Soft boards get cut out, replaced, primed, and painted to match. Painting over rot is a 6-month fix — we do it once.

Hand-Brushed Trim

Spray rigs are faster, but hand-brushing gives you a thicker mil build and crisper lines on window sashes, eaves, and fascia. That's what we do.

Common Questions

Exterior Painting FAQs

When is the best time to paint a house exterior on Long Island?+

Two peaks: mid-April to late June before humidity climbs, and mid-September to late October after the dew-point drops. We avoid painting exterior siding when humidity is above 85% or when overnight temperatures drop below 50°F. Those windows determine our calendar.

How long does an exterior repaint last?+

With Sherwin-Williams Duration or Benjamin Moore Aura and proper prep, 10–15 years on siding. Trim and south-facing faces typically go 7–10 years because of sun exposure. We register every job with the manufacturer so the paint warranty stays in effect.

Do you paint cedar shingle?+

Yes — cedar is a Long Island staple. We use oil-based primers to block tannin bleed-through, then switch to a breathable acrylic topcoat. Solid stains work for homes where you want the texture but need color; full paint for full coverage.

What about salt-air homes on the South Shore or North Shore?+

Salt air breaks down cheap paint fast. We spec Sherwin-Williams Duration or Benjamin Moore Aura for coastal homes — both are engineered for high UV and salt exposure. Trim gets an extra coat on the windward side.
